Club History: Inter Milan

In 1908 as a result of a schism in AC Milan, Internazionale or Inter Milan was born. Inter has a very good and definitive source on its own history made readily available on its website. It only took two years before Inter won the Scudetto for the first time. Inter won it again in 1920. During the Fascist era, Inter merged with Milanese Unione Sportiva and created Ambrosiana Inter. Under this name, Inter won its third Scudetto in 1930. Inter won their fourth Scudetto in 1938. The club’s first Coppa Italia win came in 1939. The fifth Scudetto was won in 1950. The use of Ambrosiana in the clubs name was abandoned in 1945. Inter won their sixth and seventh Scudetto in 1953 and 1954, respectively. The “Great Inter” era begins in 1963. It was this Inter team that won the Scudetto three years in a row from 1964-1966. The win in 1966 gave them their 10th Scudetto, which dawned the gold star on their crest. In 1964, Inter won the European Cup against Real Madrid and again in 1965 against Benfica.  Also in 1964 and 1965, Inter beat Independiente both times to win two Intercontinental Cups. It wasn’t until 1971 that Inter won their next title, their 11th Scudetto. Their 12th Scudetto came in 1980, and their 13th came in 1989. Inter won the UEFA Cup in 1991 against Roma and again in 1994 against Salzburg. In 1998, Inter won their third UEFA Cup against Lazio. It was not until 2005 that Inter won the Coppa Italia again but won it again in 2006 when they also won the Scudetto for the 14th time due to a match-fixing scandal on the part of Juventus, thus stripping it from them that year. Inter won the Scudetto the following year, 2007, their 15th in all. They won their 18th title the following year, 2008, winning the league three years in a row. Inter won their 19th title in 2009. Then the magical season–2010-2011–under Jose Mourinho saw Inter win the Treble. Five successive Scudettos in a row from 2006-2011. Champions League Champions. Coppa Italia winners. Mourinho left at the end of the season, and it was under Rafael Benitez that Inter won the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup. It had been 45 years since the last time Inter won this prestigious title under a different nomenclature. Inter won the Coppa Italia again in 2011. In all, the club has won the following accolades:

Now, Inter arose out of a schism in AC Milan. It should come as no surprise that Inter shares a stadium with its city rivals at the San Siro, which seats 80,018. Furthermore, the derby between the two teams is known as the Derby della Madonnina in honor of a city statue of the Virgin Mary.

Building Your 2013 Mustang

I haven’t been this excited about Mustangs in a long time. I left the Mustang scene back in 2008 when I sold my 1999 Saleen and purchased a 2009 Corolla. I couldn’t afford to rebuild the supercharger, replace the clutch, and continue to do regular maintenance on top of that (really the budget breaker was the supercharger). I’m a bit jaded against forced induction as a result. I really like the 2003/2004 Cobras, but I can’t get behind it when there is a great potential for the IRS to break. The 2005-2010 were cute looking but not all that exciting to me. Then the 2011 brought about the return of the 5.0 in true 5.0L size with some more aggressive styling. I’m loving this 5.0 S197 era, and now all the more with the 2013 Mustang. I want one. Badly.

I wish I could order one now to my specs, but, alas, I cannot. If I could, here’s what I would do:

  • GT Premium 6-speed manual with special leather interior with accent package.
  • Grabber Blue exterior. I love blue, and this is a delightfully obnoxious color that draws attention.
  • Charcoal Black with Grabber Blue Accent. How sweet is that? Accent matches the exterior. Very cool.
  • GT Track Package. I don’t need a supercharger. This Mustang already has plenty of power. A 3.73 rear differential and special cooling system will be plenty of power, getup, and go without the disadvantage of supercharger maintenance. Brembo breaks and 19 x 9 inch rims with 10 inch wide Pirelli rubber add plenty of stopping and gripping power.
  • Comfort Package. I want to keep my rear warm, what can I say?
  • Shaker Pro Audio. Love me some speakers. Need to hear my metal and my original scores nice and clearly.

The standard options are aplenty. My favorite? Standard in-cabin lighting. Can life get better? I submit that it cannot!

But there are some tweaks that I would do. I would change the shifter for a Steeda Tri-ax. For $250, I would get improved shifting that is shorter and reliable, especially since it requires more effort to go into reverse, thus avoiding accidentally first gear mis-shifts. I had one in my 1994 Cobra and loved it. Wouldn’t have a different shifter to be honest. I would also change the exhaust and go with a Magnaflow Street Catback system. For $750, I would get less rear-end weight and better flowing and more aggressive sounding exhaust. If I change the exit, I must also change the entrance. I would get a Steeda ProFlow Cold Air Intake with SCT XCalibrator 3 and custom tune. It’s another $750, but it would provide the opportunity to complete my airflow customization and optimize the air/fuel, mileage, and performance. There’s one last modification that I would do. The car needs to be lowered to reduce wheel gap. I would go with the Steeda Ultra-Lite Springs for $263. It would give a more aggressive stance, reduce the gap, but not hinder ride quality.

And there we have it. For a mere $42638 (not including taxes), I would have the Mustang of my dreams. It comes straight from Ford with lots of options and plenty of power. I would make a few minor tweaks. And I would own it for a lifetime. I want my son to learn how to drive in this car!

How about you? Do you like the 2013 Mustang? Which model and packages would you go with? What modifications would you make to it?
