Chelsea 1-1 Birmingham

Chelsea FC Match Report | Reaction: The Extra Push

Well, Sturridge got our only goal. He’s now tied with Lampard for top scorer with 11 goals. Mata had a penalty but failed to put it through. We should have won the game. Terrible. “It wasn’t good enough,” said AVB. I’m growing tired of his explanations. “We replaced Torres with Drogba,” AVB explained, “as we wanted to up the pace and play with a target man.” What can we conclude from the explanation alone? Torres is slow and not a key player. Yet, AVB defends the Spaniard, saying, “Torres is a super talent . . .” I just don’t get it. Our players are performing poorly, which no doubt makes for difficult decisions for AVB, but at the same time it seems that AVB is managing poorly too. I didn’t see the game, and this knee-jerk reaction is based solely on Twitter and Chelsea FC’s website. I’m sad that we didn’t beat a Championship team at home, but such is the magic of the FA Cup. Replay for March 6. I hope we recover our goal scoring prowess and defensive tenacity to dominate the game and move on to the next round. We need to go out of the 2011-2012 season in all competitions with a bang and finish strongly. Let’s leave the past in the past and focus our efforts for the time being!
