Chelsea 2-1 Sunderland

The Blues earned yet another W in yesterday’s game at the Stadium of Lights versus Sunderland. They dominated possession and they deserved the three points. We did get startled in the last 5 minutes, but we maintained. Unfortunately, we did not keep a clean sheet, but we walked away victorious nonetheless.

Mata started while Torres sat. Muireles started while Mikel stayed home. And we looked good, lively, and peppy. Sturridge made his first start, and he scored on his first appearance. Mata was most impressive. Meireles did well, and I was quite pleased with his performance.

Drogba did not play, but I look forward to his inclusion next week should he be fit. Malouda subbed on for Mata, but I think he should have started in place of Lampard.

Terry scored our first goal as the result of a cross that yielded multiple chances on goal that culminated in his capitalization.

Sturridge scored our second goal, which came in the second half. This goal was a cheeky backheel, a fine show of skill, ingenuity, and finesse.

We remain undefeated, but how will we fair against the likes of the Manchesters? With yesterday’s performance, I’m optimistic that we can do well.

I thought Mata and Sturridge were great together. Once Torres get’s back in form, they will make a great front line. With Lukaku and Drogba, we have a great and deep striker set. Midfield is good with Meireles and Ramires. I thought Mata was a midfielder, but his current performance is very suitable, so I would put Malouda on the left wing. Lampard could be a sub for anyone in the midfield.

So, after yesterday’s performance and in preparation for Manchester United next week, I would utilize the following formation:

Cech
Bosingwa – Ivanovich – Terry – Cole
Ramires – Meireles – Malouda
Sturridge – Drogba – Mata

Subs:
1. Lampard
2. Lukaku
3. Anelka
4. David Luiz

I am hoping Drogba’s knockout against Norwich will be tge reboot he has needed since his Malaria diagnosis. Will this event prove to be a helpful turning point for him?

Goals:

  • Anelka: 1
  • Bosingwa: 1
  • Lampard: 1
  • Malouda: 1
  • Mata: 1
  • Sturridge: 1
  • Terry: 1
  • Goals for: 7
  • Goals against: 3
