Chelsea opened up the 2011-2012 Barclay’s Premier League with a nil-nil draw away against Stoke today. Read more about the game from the Chelsea website.
Torres started. Why? His preseason form was not good and he recently suffered a concussion. Drogba should have started and we should have stuck to a 4-3-3. Malouda should have been on the left wing. Not sure about AVB’s lineup here. At least we earned a point and kept a clean sheet. I didn’t get to see the game. At least Lampard got a yellow for throwing the ball. Yes, it is silly behavior, but at least it shows spark, which we clearly lacked at the start of last season with the Community Shield and especially in October-December 2010.
Here’s to hoping that the Blues will fan the flame and build momentum. In my eyes, the ideal starting lineup will be as follows:
Bane – David Luiz – Terry – Cole
Ramirez – Lampard – Malouda
Drogba – Sturridge – Anelka
Until he proves his form as a sub and demonstrates start-worthiness, I would sub Torres on for Anelka as necessary.
I would sub Alex on for David Luiz as necessary due to injury proneness and fitness.
How many forwards do we have? Drogba, Torres, Anelka, Sturridge, Kalou. How many spots in formation are available? Only three. I would say stick with what worked. Drogba – Kalou – Anelka. But Kalou has lost favor in the wake of Sturridge. It is a mighty nice problem to have, and it is really a good thing.
